Kalabak Su-Kamil Kaplanlı (Kara Kamil)
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stopped at the Eskişehir train station during one of his trips. This stopover caused a new era to begin in Eskişehir’s drinking water needs. Atatürk, who wanted a glass of water, was served a jug of boiled and cooled thermal water. Atatürk did not like the water, which had a different taste, and he asked for information about Eskişehir’s drinking water. He asked the then Mayor Kamil Kaplanlı (nicknamed Kara Kamil) to solve the problem so that the need for clean and delicious drinking water could be met as soon as possible. Although it was a difficult period in terms of manpower, Kara Kamil immediately started working so that the people could drink delicious and good water.
The spring water we know as Kalabak water was found from the sources near the Kalabak village on the northern slope of Türkmen Mountain. After a long effort and difficult work, Kalabak water was delivered to Eskişehir in 1936.
